Barbara is a long-time resident of Norwalk and retired Norwalk Public Schools teacher who is proud to have served our students as an English teacher at Ponus Ridge Middle School and Norwalk High School. She is a four-term member of the Norwalk Common Council where she has served as Council President, Majority Leader, and chaired the Community Services, Public Works, and Land Use and Building Management Committees. All three of her children are graduates of Norwalk Public Schools.
Barbara grew up in Western Pennsylvania where she learned the value of hard work, family, grass roots organizing, and public service. She was influenced by the turbulent 60’s and led her first sit-ins and protests in high school and college, demanding better education and equal rights for women. Then it was on to a career in the radio industry connecting with listeners on a local level and honing her communications skills. As her children grew and faced the challenges of a changing world, she felt the calling to make a difference in kids’ lives and embarked on a graduate degree and career change to teaching here in Norwalk.
Barbara holds a BA in Communications from the University of Pittsburgh and MA in Secondary English Education from Fairfield University.
