Strong Schools. Resilient City. Leadership that Listens.

Strong Schools and Accountable Leadership

As a parent, I led rallies at City Hall to increase funding for our schools. As a public school teacher, I inspired students to achieve, to believe in themselves, and to be good citizens of  the world. As Common Council Majority Leader and then President, I fought for stronger school budgets – advocating for filling gaps in the school budget that had been needed for decades – so students could get the education and services they need.

I also supported new school construction for the first time in fifty years.

As your Mayor, I will exercise my right under the city charter to chair the Board of Education. I will use my voice and platform to ask the tough questions and bring accountability by making transparency a priority in every decision that impacts our students and families so that parents, educators, and taxpayers all feel heard and respected in the decisions that shape our schools.

With my classroom experience and my record of fighting for students, I will make sure the focus stays where it belongs, on giving our children the education they deserve, while respecting the taxpayers who fund it.

I will:

  • Exercise my right under the city charter to Chair the Board of Education and set meeting agendas that promotes accountability to the community
  • Tie school budget growth to clear student outcomes through performance-based reviews
  • Protect programs that shape the whole child like arts, music, special education, and counseling
  • Make transparency the standard in all major decisions

Affordability and Economic Opportunity

Norwalk families are working harder than ever to keep up with the rising cost of living. On the Common Council, I worked to keep taxes fair while supporting projects that grow our tax base, so homeowners aren’t left carrying the load alone.

As your Mayor, I will continue that fight. I will hold developers and big institutions accountable to contribute their fair share, while building a stronger, more diverse economy that benefits residents. I will support the growth of minority- and women-owned businesses, and I will advocate in Hartford for policies that give Norwalk taxpayers relief.

I will:

  • Grow the commercial tax base with smart tools like Business Improvement Districts and small business support.
  • Expand support for minority and women-owned businesses and local entrepreneurs.
  • Fight in Hartford for fairer policies that ease the burden on Norwalk families.
  • Hold developers accountable to strengthen neighborhoods and people, not just profits.

Responsible Growth and a Resilient City for the Future

As a Council member, I supported flood remediation, green infrastructure, and expanding our tree canopy especially in South Norwalk, where heat islands are an equity issue.

As your Mayor, I will make sure city government holds itself accountable for preparing Norwalk for the future. That means upgrading stormwater and sewage systems, ensuring our Wastewater Treatment Plant runs efficiently, and expanding sidewalks and public transportation. It also means saying no to unchecked, cookie-cutter development and yes to smart growth that respects the character of our neighborhoods. Developers must give back to the community when they build here by providing jobs, and public space improvements that benefit residents.

I will:

  • Invest in stormwater and sewage upgrades to protect neighborhoods
  • Improve walkability, bikeability, and public transportation
  • Tighten zoning codes and require architectural review to preserve neighborhood character
  • Require Community Benefits Agreements so development delivers housing, jobs, and community investment
  • Reduce congestion with traffic calming measures, safer sidewalks, and better traffic light timing

Government that Listens and Improves Quality of Life

I believe leadership means being accountable and accessible. That’s why, as your Mayor, I will hold regular “Mayor’s Nights Out” so residents can raise issues directly with me. I will make the city website easier to navigate and ensure important information is available in Spanish and Haitian Creole.

I will continue championing initiatives that improve daily life. I fought for the Community Resource Hub, which has served thousands of residents in need. I have been a strong supporter of the arts and cultural community, and I will continue protecting immigrants and LGBTQ+ residents by upholding Connecticut’s TRUST Act and Norwalk’s policy of not cooperating with ICE without warrants, while working with local organizations that serve our most vulnerable communities.

I will:

  • Hold quarterly “Mayor’s Nights Out” so residents can speak directly with me
  • Improve language access and make city communication simple and clear
  • Strengthen the Community Resource Hub and support the arts
  • Uphold protections for immigrants and LGBTQ+ residents so Norwalk remains a welcoming city
